An exhibition dedicated to the Day of the military topographer was opened in the Russian Guard



On February 8, specialists of the Topographic Service of the Russian Guard celebrate their professional holiday - the Day of the Military Topographer.
It was on this day 210 years ago that the Regulations for the Military Topographic Depot were approved, according to which the created structure was responsible for preparing and providing the Russian army with cartographic materials.
On the eve of the anniversary of the national military topographic service in the Central Office of the Russian Guard an exhibition has been opened, the exposition of which presents historical instruments for topographic survey of the area, drawing tools for mapping, a mirror-lens stereoscope for deciphering aerial photographs (1944), a theodolite (1982), various historical compasses, military topography textbooks.
A special place in the exhibition is occupied by the collection of Officer's Atlases published by the Military Topographic Directorate of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the USSR-RF in 1938, 1974,1984 and 2006.

The exhibition also introduces the founders of Russian military topography and the key stages of its development. So, an important role in the history of the service was played by the topographer Semyon Aleksandrovich Mukhin. From 1797 to 1816, on behalf of the Emperors of Russia Paul I and Alexander I, Semyon Aleksandrovich performed the tasks of creating maps of the Crimea, St. Petersburg , and before the Patriotic War of 1812 he updated the General Map of the Russian Empire. In 1816, at the suggestion of General of Infantry Evgraf Fedotovich Komarovsky Major General Semyon Alexandrovich Mukhin from the post of head of the Cart Depot was appointed the first chief of staff of the Separate Corps of Internal Guards and served until 1824
Since November 2016, the Topographic Service of the Russian Guard has been providing the troops of the National Guard with up-to-date topographic maps and terrain data. The topographers of the troops demonstrate a high level of training and carry out their tasks with honor.
