The Senate of Uzbekistan adopted amendments on mandatory vaccination against coronavirus.

The Senate (upper house) of the Oliy Majlis (Parliament) of Uzbekistan adopted amendments to the law on Saturday, allowing mandatory vaccination against a new coronavirus infection. This is stated in a message posted on the website of the upper house of the legislature.

“The law of the Republic of Uzbekistan “On amendments and additions to certain legislative acts of the Republic of Uzbekistan aimed at ensuring the sanitary and epidemiological welfare of the population” was approved,  ; - says the message. “The adoption of the law helps to strengthen the legislative framework for organizing mass vaccination of the population and eliminate the existing contradictions in the current legislation on the introduction of preventive vaccination in the event of a threat of the spread of infectious diseases. The law was approved by the senators,” added the press service of the upper house.

The current law “On the protection of the health of citizens” has been supplemented with a provision stating that by the decision of the chief state sanitary doctor of Uzbekistan, preventive vaccination of the population can be carried out in the country in the event of a threat of the spread of dangerous infectious diseases. The Labor Code stipulates the employer's right not to allow an employee to work if he refuses preventive immunization (in the absence of contraindications for health reasons).

The Ministry of Health of Uzbekistan announced on Saturday that 924 cases of coronavirus infection were detected in the country over the past day. This is the highest rate since the beginning of the epidemic.

Mass vaccination in Uzbekistan began in April. For this, the Russian Sputnik V, a drug manufactured in India under a license from the British-Swedish company AstraZeneca (AstraZeneca), and the Chinese company Anhui Zhifei Longcom Biopharmaceutical (Anhui Zhifei Longcom Biopharmaceutical) are used. On Friday, the first batch of 3 million 60 thousand doses of the vaccine of the American company Moderna ("Modern") allocated within the framework of the international program COVAX ("Kovax").
