The Taliban have promised that Afghan universities will open to fourth-year students.

The radical Taliban movement (banned in the Russian Federation), which seized power in Afghanistan, promised that classes in the fourth year of state universities will begin in the next 15 days. This was reported on Tuesday by the Tolo News TV channel with a reference to the statement of Lutfulla Khairhwa, appointed to the post of deputy minister of higher education in the interim government formed by the Taliban.

Khairhwa also denied rumors about the abolition of law and political science faculties in the Afghan education system, but noted that the Taliban did not share the methods of teaching the humanities that have been used in  universities for the last twenty years. “As for the faculties, I must say that not a single faculty will be abolished,” he said.

In addition, Khairhwa encouraged teachers who left Afghanistan to return and work with the ministry in building a new system of higher education in the country.

The Taliban launched a large-scale operation to establish control over Afghanistan after the US announced in the spring of 2021 the decision to withdraw its armed forces from the country. On August 15, radicals entered Kabul without a fight, and President Ashraf Ghani left the republic. On September 6, the Taliban announced the establishment of control over the entire Afghan territory, and on September 7, they announced the composition of the interim government, the legitimacy of which has not yet been recognized by any country.

After the Taliban came to power and temporary cessation of the educational process, classes in schools resumed on 19 September, however, only boys and teachers- men. Later, Zabihullah Mujahid, a spokesman for the movement and Deputy Minister of Information and Culture in the Taliban Interim Cabinet, stressed that girls would be admitted to schools only after the preparatory work on class separation and distribution of teachers was completed.
