About 200,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccines delivered to Tajikistan under COVAX

Vaccines will be kept in a special storage facility for vaccines against coronavirus and will be sent to cities and regions of the republic in accordance with the need.


Almost 200,000 doses of coronavirus vaccines were delivered to Tajikistan on Monday. According to the press center of the Ministry of Health and Social Protection of the Population of the Republic on Monday, the vaccines were delivered under the COVAX mechanism.

198,900 doses of Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine have been delivered under the COVAX mechanism. It is noted that the vaccines will be in a special storage for vaccines against coronavirus and, in accordance with the need, sent to the cities and regions of the republic.

Immunization of adult citizens has been launched in Tajikistan since July 3, 2021 and is mandatory and free of charge. Earlier it was reported that as part of humanitarian assistance, the country received more than 13.8 million doses of AstraZeneсa, CoronaVac, Moderna, Sputnik V and Pfizer vaccines. According to the Ministry of Health, more than 92.2% of citizens in Tajikistan have been vaccinated, and about 88% of the country's citizens received the second component of the vaccine. At the same time, almost 20% of the adult population of Tajikistan were vaccinated with a booster dose.

The first infected people were detected in the country on April 30, 2020. The headquarters reported a new outbreak of infection on June 21, 2021, from the same day until August 29, 2021, the Ministry of Health reported new cases of infection daily. Since August 29, 2021, new cases of infection have been registered in the republic only on October 15 and a few days in November, when a total of 11 infected people were detected. New infections were reported on January 21, 2022, when 23 new cases were identified. From March 15, 2022, the Republican Anti-Covid Headquarters abolished the mandatory mask regime, as well as restrictions on weddings and other national celebrations and ceremonies.
