About 120 thousand tourists plan to visit Dagestan in May

The tourist flow to Dagestan in May will increase by 20% compared to the same period in 2021, the Minister for Tourism and Folk Art Crafts of the regionEmin Merdanov.

"In May 2021 About 100,000 tourists visited the Republic of Dagestan this year, and we expect about 120,000 this year," the agency's interlocutor said. According to him, the hotels are already fully booked for the entire tourist season.

Earlier, the Federal Tourism Agency announced that the tourist flow to the southern regions of Russia from May to September will exceed 10 million people. According to the department, compared to the same period in 2021, the growth will be up to 30%.

Dagestan is rich in unique natural and archaeological sites. This is the only subtropical forest in Russia in the delta of the Samur River, the largest sand dune in Eurasia, Sarykum, 12 km long, the Sulak Canyon, which is much deeper than the famous Grand Canyon of the United States. The region also has access to the Caspian Sea, the largest enclosed body of water on the planet.

The region hosts the Kala-Koreish fortress, founded in the 6th century, as well as the Gunib fortress, built during the Caucasian War in the 19th century. The quintessence of the architecture of Dagestan is Derbent - one of the oldest cities in the world, the citadel of Naryn-Kala is located in it.
