On April 22, the second stage of the interregional ecological marathon "Katun 688: from the source to the Biya" starts. At this stage, the organizers invite everyone to join the Clean Katun environmental campaign.

The event is held with the aim of attracting public attention to the problems of pollution of the Katun River and its tributaries, the formation of environmental consciousness and culture of the population.  Recently, the Katun and its tributaries have been heavily polluted. To a greater extent, household garbage is left by vacationers on the banks of rivers, turning them into landfills. As you know, a significant part of this garbage eventually gets into the water. Together with garbage, chemically hazardous substances enter the water, which cause significant damage to human health and the ecosystem of the reservoir. The duration and safety of our lives depend on the quality of water in natural sources.

As part of the action, participants independently choose a section of the bank of the Katun River or its tributaries for clearing debris. Collected garbage must be taken to landfills. After the participants will need to provide photographs or video materials confirming the action. In the submitted reports, it is necessary to indicate the name of the venue, the number and list of participants, as well as the amount of garbage collected in bags. Information should be sent to the email address

The promotion will last until September 15, 2021. The most active participants will be awarded with diplomas and souvenirs from the organizers.

It should be noted that at the first stage of the marathon, an art competition of children's creativity and a photo contest dedicated to the main Altai river Katun took place.  In total, more than 300 adults and children from the Republic of Altai and the Altai Territory took part in them.

For participation in the marathon, please contact the environmental education department of the Katunsky Biosphere Reserve by phone - 8 (38848) 23-1-43 or 89136935097.
