A batch of the Russian vaccine against coronavirus Sputnik V was delivered to the Philippines on Friday evening. This was announced on Saturday by the Office of Media Relations under the President of the Republic, accompanying the publication with a photograph from the international airport of Manila.

Delivery to the Philippines of this batch, consisting of the first and second components of the drug, has been repeatedly delayed. It is expected that another batch of the Russian vaccine of a smaller volume will arrive in the republic on Saturday.

On January 30, 2020, the first case of coronavirus infection was detected in the Philippines. To date, the total number of infected people in the republic has exceeded 1.46 million, more than 1.38 million people have recovered, and 25.7 thousand patients have died. The country's authorities approved the emergency use of a vaccine by the American company Moderna, the Russian drug Sputnik V, as well as drugs from Pfizer, AstraZeneca, Sinovac, the Indian company Bharat Biotech and Janssen, owned by the American corporation Johnson & Johnson.
