In winter, this region in northeastern Georgia is often cut off from the rest of the country due to snowfall.

Currently, the settlements of Tusheti can only be reached by a single 72-kilometer highway. Its condition today is far from ideal, and some areas are simply dangerous. According to the architect Gia Abuladze, in winter it can take up to four hours to overcome this path, reports Sputnik-Georgia

With the advent of the narrow-gauge railway, transport links with the rest of Georgia will improve. In addition, the area, which is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List, will become more accessible to tourists. As Gia Abuladze clarified, the narrow-gauge railway has great prospects in mountainous terrain.

There is already a similar experience in Georgia. At the beginning of the 20th century, a narrow gauge railway was built between the resort towns of Bakuriani and Borjomi, which is still in operation. Three years ago, the compositions were replaced with new ones, but the appearance was preserved.
