The Russian President visited the laboratory complex of the Sirius University of Science and Technology.

Russian President Vladimir Putin got acquainted with the activities of the laboratory complex of the Sirius University of Science and Technology, which allows solving problems of high complexity in the application of genetic technologies in pharmaceuticals, medicine and agriculture.

The head of the Sirius center, Elena Shmeleva, told Vladimir Putin that the first stage of the creation of the complex was completed in September 2022. These laboratories are designed to conduct research in the field of life sciences. Their main areas of activity are genomic research, biotechnology, gene therapy, immunology, nanobiomedicine, as well as plant biology and biotechnology.

The total area of the first stage is 7,500 sq. m. The second stage is currently being designed, which will include more than 100 laboratory rooms (including rooms for working with laboratory animals) with a total area of about 7,000 sq. m. In addition, it is planned to create a research resource center (vivarium) to perform research and preclinical tests using laboratory animals.

In order to use expensive equipment as efficiently as possible, the laboratory infrastructure is managed by separate departments — resource centers. This provides access to it for both the university's project teams and its academic and industrial partners. The Engineering and Technical department of the laboratory complex solves problems related to the development and testing of import-substituting scientific equipment, maintenance of unique devices.

Russian high-tech companies place orders for research in the university's resource centers, increasing the effectiveness of their research, involving students in solving the tasks set by the industry and ensuring the self-sufficiency of the laboratory complex.
