An expedition to study the habitats of the Asian wild goose will be held in Yakutia.

An expedition to study and assess the habitats of the Asian wild goose will be held in March 2023 in Yakutia, the press service of the regional Directorate of Biological Resources, specially protected natural territories and natural parks told TASS on Friday.

"In March of this year, employees of the directorate, together with scientists with the support of Polyus Aldan, will conduct an expedition to the Neryungri district to study the habitats of the Asian wild goose and its current state. Such an expedition will be held for the first time at this time of the year," the directorate said.

Actual data on the number of wild boar is not available due to rare studies, the last time such work took place 20 years ago.

As part of the project, research work to assess the current state of this bird in Yakutia started in August and September 2022. 11 participants - employees of the directorate, scientists of the Institute of Biological Problems of the Cryolithozone SB RAS and representatives of the Polyus Aldan company - studied the tributaries of the Aldan River in the area of the Sunnagino-Siliginsky reserve and the area 300 km downstream from the city of Tommot. According to its results, it turned out that there are no Asian wild animals in their former places. The purpose of the expeditions is to determine the habitat of the wild goose population and find out the reasons for the disappearance of the bird in its former habitats.

The Asian wild goose is one of the rare and little-studied birds that is absolutely not afraid of humans, which has put the species on the verge of destruction. Dikusha is listed in the Red Books of the Russian Federation and Yakutia.
