Tomsk Polytechnic University will train nuclear scientists for Indonesia

Rosatom has identified TPU as a reference university for cooperation in the direction of training personnel for partner projects.


Tomsk Polytechnic University (TPU) will become a reference platform for the development of Indonesia's human resources in the field of nuclear technologies, including for joint projects with Rosatom State Corporation. This was announced on Wednesday by the press service of the university.

"At the 66th session of the General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), which takes place on September 26-30 in Vienna, Tomsk Polytechnic University was the first Russian university to sign a cooperation agreement with the Polytechnic Institute of Nuclear Technologies of Indonesia," the message reads.

It is noted that Rosatom has officially identified TPU as a reference university for cooperation with the Indonesian side in the direction of training personnel for their partner projects. "In the history of modern Russia, we are the first university to sign an agreement with both the profile Polytechnic Institute and the National Atomic Energy Agency of Indonesia. Our partners will annually send their current employees to TPU for master's and postgraduate studies. In addition, we will develop academic exchanges, scientific consulting," the TPU press service quotes Vera Verkhoturova, project coordinator, acting head of the Scientific and Educational Center for International Nuclear Education and Career Support for Foreign Students of TPU.

Tomsk Polytechnic University is the main university of Rosatom. Tomsk Polytechnic University implements many projects in the interests of the state Corporation. The only university research nuclear reactor in the country operates on the territory of the university, which allows TPU not only to conduct breakthrough research in the field of nuclear technologies, but also to train students, to retrain existing specialists, including foreign citizens. This year Tomsk Polytechnic University completed part of a large-scale project aimed at training employees of the Multipurpose Radiation Center for the Rosatom project in Bolivia - the Center for Nuclear Research and Technology (CIAT) in El Alto, and started the next phase - training specialists for the Laboratory of Radiobiology and Radioecology of CIAT.

Rosatom supported TPU in the federal program "Advanced Engineering Schools". The topic of the Tomsk Polytechnic University is "Intelligent energy systems". Within the framework of the project, the university and the state corporation intend, among other things, to develop and implement digital solutions for the closure of the nuclear fuel cycle, including the decommissioning of nuclear energy facilities, and to train specialist engineers in this field. In addition, within the framework of the program of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation "Priority 2030", one of the strategic rates of TPU is devoted to the creation of new technologies and training in the field of traditional, promising and hydrogen energy.
