Thailand plans to build its own spaceport



Thailand has offered to expand cooperation with NASA.
The Thai authorities have proposed to expand cooperation with the US National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), including for the creation of a spaceport. This was announced by the Deputy Committee of the House of Representatives of Thailand on Communications, Telecommunications, Digital Economy and Society Settapong Malisuwan.
According to him, the committee proposed to expand cooperation with NASA for the development of the Thai space technology laboratory in the north of the country, the creation of a cosmodrome, the use of non-geostationary satellites for communications, climate activities and disaster prevention, the development of human resources in space-related areas, as well as the promotion of the local space industry.
"We have set clear goals for the Thai space industry, but we need support from the government and the private sector, as well as an international agency such as NASA," The Nation newspaper quoted an official as saying on Friday, "Space is no longer a distant issue for Thais."
Malisuwan also said that NASA has agreed to help Thailand in space research, provide academic assistance and allow the kingdom to use its space data. In addition, NASA is ready to share its experience and help Thailand's space program aimed at combating climate change and natural disasters.
