The first spacecraft under the Sphere program and three Gonets-M satellites were put into orbit.

Three Gonets-M satellites and the Skif-D spacecraft, launched on a Soyuz-2.1b carrier rocket from the Vostochny cosmodrome on Saturday, were put into orbit. This was reported to TASS on Sunday in Roscosmos.

"There is a department of the Gonets-M and Skif-D vehicles," Roscosmos reported.

The Soyuz-2.1b launch vehicle launched from the Vostochny cosmodrome on Saturday at 22:57 Moscow time. It was the first rocket launch this year from the East. The Gonets-M satellites first went into orbit from this cosmodrome, and the Skif-D became the first vehicle launched under the Sphere program.

Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke about the Sphere program on a direct line on June 7, 2018. It involves the launch of communications satellites and remote sensing of the Earth. According to the former Director General of Roscosmos Dmitry Rogozin, the program will include five satellite groups providing telecom services, five more - surveillance.

Gonets is the only Russian low-orbit mobile satellite communication system designed for global information exchange with mobile and stationary objects, as well as for the organization of retransmission channels for various purposes.
