Japanese electronics company NEC has developed high-tech equipment to help firefighters navigate smoky areas.

This firm, together with partners, has created a mask that can see in the dark and display vital information. NEC said its so-called "smart mask" is equipped with an infrared camera.

The development is also able to help firefighters navigate and look for people waiting to be rescued, even in extreme conditions.
Images are transmitted to a small display located in front of the eyes. The device can also give it the necessary data, including how much oxygen is left in the cylinders.

The mask transmits images to commanders, allowing them to communicate with firefighters in a dangerous situation. The company expects to begin practical use of this system by early 2023.
