Indonesia to produce 250 million doses of vaccine by the end of the year

The production is handled by the Indonesian state pharmaceutical holding BioFarma, according to the Jakarta Post, citing Minister of State Enterprises Eric Thohira.

“I can assure you that now the company’s capacity is 100 million vaccines per year, but by the end of 2020 we will bring this figure to 250 million,” the minister said. He also called on developers to complete clinical trials as soon as possible, set up production and start vaccinating the population next year.

The Minister also recalled that the most promising project in terms of a future vaccine is the joint development of Bio Farma and China's Sinovac Biotech . Human trials are expected to begin in August. At the same time, at the end of July, President Joko Widodo set the task of completing work on a vaccine within three months.

To date, over 116.7 thousand cases of coronavirus infection have been recorded in Indonesia, more than 5.4 thousand people have died . According to these indicators, the republic is the leader in Southeast Asia.
