Wang Yi Calls for Building a Closer SCO Community with a Shared Destiny

A reception on the occasion of the Day of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) was held on June 15 in the Chinese capital of Beijing. Member of the State Council of the People's Republic of China, Minister of Foreign Affairs Wang Yi addressed the participants of the event via video link.

In his speech, Wang Yi noted that 20 years ago, the heads of six states - China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan - officially announced the creation of the SCO. According to him, this decision was in line with the trends of the era of peace, development and cooperation, and also marked the beginning of a new era of ensuring security, promoting development and achieving prosperity with the joint efforts of the countries of the region. Guided by the "Shanghai spirit", the SCO has embarked on a path of cooperation and development that meets the realities of the region and meets the needs of all parties, conducting important research to build a new type of international relations and a community of common destiny for mankind, the Chinese Foreign Minister stressed.

< b>Wang Yi further stated that at the new starting point of history, the SCO member states should boldly keep pace with the times, share the responsibility to the era, and make an even greater contribution to promoting peace and development in the world. In this regard, Wang Yi put forward a four-point proposal: to become an example of a community of common destiny, give new impetus to mutually beneficial cooperation, write a new page in the history of mutual learning among civilizations, and assume new responsibilities for global governance.

June 15 This year marks the 20th anniversary of the creation of the SCO. The reception was jointly organized by the Chinese People's Society for Friendship with Foreign Countries and the SCO Secretariat. The event was attended by SCO Secretary General Vladimir Norov, as well as diplomatic representatives of member states, observer states and partner states for the SCO dialogue in China.
