Valentina Matvienko spoke at the SCO Forum

Chairman of the Federation Council Valentina Matviyenko delivered a video message at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Forum on Education and Poverty Reduction among Women. The event was held in Beijing as part of the celebration of the 20th anniversary of the SCO. The forum was organized by the All-China Women's Federation.


According to the head of the Federation Council, the authority of the SCO, its influence is felt in all areas. “The digitalization of the economy, the development of robotics and artificial intelligence are designed to eradicate poverty and improve the quality of life of people. And this is impossible without achieving gender equality and the full involvement of women.”


Valentina Matvienko noted that due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the worthy future of many countries where the situation of women has worsened has been threatened. “The pandemic has become a serious challenge to the education system, while highlighting its ever-increasing importance in today's world.”


The Chairman of the Federation Council emphasized the special role of the SCO University. “Because the purpose of its creation is, first of all, the development of integration processes in the educational sphere, the expansion of opportunities for the youth of our countries, including, of course, girls, to receive a quality modern education.”


“The People's Republic of China, its Chairman Xi Jinping are making a significant contribution to the advancement of the women's agenda, the practical solution of problems both in their country and and in the international arena, - said Valentina Matvienko. “It is impossible not to note the contribution of China to the reduction of poverty in the world.”


The Chairman of the Federation Council spoke about the measures taken in Russia, which made it possible to avoid a crisis in the healthcare system, a large-scale lockdown, a disruption in the educational process, and a surge in poverty. “We are ready to share our developments and experience with all interested countries and international structures.”


Valentina Matvienko recalled the forthcoming third Eurasian Women's Forum. “His Council works on a permanent basis. More than two dozen projects with international participation are being implemented. They, in particular, are aimed at the introduction of social contracts, the development of women's entrepreneurship, and the involvement of women in the sphere of high technologies. We will continue our work there, including on the topics raised at the SCO forum.”
