A merchant ship from the United Arab Emirates entered the Israeli port of Haifa for the first time.

For the first time in history, a cargo ship from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) entered the port of Haifa in Israel. This was announced on Monday on Twitter by the Prime Minister of the Jewish state, Benjamin Netanyahu.

“For the first time in history, a merchant ship from the UAE entered the port of Haifa. A new trade route is opening between the United Arab Emirates and Israel, - the Prime Minister wrote in the caption of the photo, which captures the moment a dry-cargo ship enters the harbour. “The peace agreement between us (Israel and UAE -TASS note) paves the way for cooperation that will bring billions to the citizens of Israel. This is especially important during the coronavirus epidemic, as it helps to strengthen the economy,” Benjamin Netanyahu added.

On September 15, in  Washington, Netanyahu, Foreign Ministers of the UAE and Bahrain, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan and  Abdel Latif bin Rashed al-Zayani signed agreements on  normalization of relations. US President Donald Trump, who attended the ceremony, described the documents as "the basis for a comprehensive peace" in the region.
