Turkmenistan called for the inclusion of landlocked countries in the global transport network

The President of Turkmenistan proposed to develop a UN resolution on landlocked countries.

President of TurkmenistanSerdar Berdimuhamedov proposed to develop a resolution of the UN General Assembly on increasing the role of landlocked countries.

"We consider it timely to start drafting a resolution of the UN General Assembly on enhancing the role of landlocked developing countries in the development and strengthening of global transport cooperation," he said at the Opening of the Transport Conference of Landlocked Developing Countries.

The head of the republic added that Turkmenistan is ready to start developing a document that "is able to give a meaningful impetus to the promotion of the interests of states, indicate the importance and understanding of the relevant problems."

Serdar Berdimuhamedov also proposed the creation of a special working group under the auspices of the UN. Its task would be to defend the interests of landlocked countries in the transport sector.

The conference is being held under the auspices of the UN on August 15-16 in the city of Turkmenbashi. It is attended by delegations of more than 30 states, heads of more than 30 international and specialized organizations and institutions.
