The Chinese army conducted military exercises of unprecedented scale in the area of Taiwan island

The troops of the Eastern Zone of the Combat Command of the People's Liberation Army of China conducted exercises in the sea and air space off the northern, southwestern and southeastern coast of Taiwan Island. The units performed long-range artillery firing maneuvers and launched missiles with non-nuclear warheads in pre-approved waters, hitting all training targets. This showed the readiness of the army to deliver accurate strikes against the enemy and block his passage through strategically important zones.

Ren Yang, commander of the missile Brigade:
"Our officers and soldiers can cope with any difficulties and constantly hone their skills to destroy targets with timely missile strikes. We are ready to stop any attempts by external forces and separatists to achieve Taiwan's independence."

About a hundred fighters and bombers took part in the maneuvers. More than ten destroyers and frigates operated in the exercise zones for reconnaissance operations and warning of passing vessels.

Liu Dongkong, Deputy Head of the Department of the Joint Staff of the Eastern Zone of the PLA Combat Command:
"The units that took part in the exercises of the Eastern Combat Command Zone successfully completed their tasks from battle planning and command to the work of operational groups." 

Military experts consider the exercises of the PRC army around the island of Taiwan unprecedented in scale.

Zhang Junshe, Senior Researcher at the Chinese Naval Research Institute:
"The exercises involve ground forces, naval and air forces, missile forces, strategic support forces and other units. Their joint training significantly expands the possibilities of conducting combat operations and allows them to work out various scenarios. During the exercises, the troops confirmed their ability to control all approaches to the island of Taiwan. These maneuvers will become a serious deterrent against the separatist forces."

Meng Xiangqing, Professor at the PLA National Defense University:
"The exercises allowed us to make three important breakthroughs. Firstly, they cover a wide range of zones, unlike previous maneuvers in the Taiwan area, including during the 1996 crisis. Secondly, the exercises are conducted at an unprecedented close distance from the island. Thirdly, the operations will have a more powerful deterrent effect on the separatists and hostile external forces than ever before."

According to the Chinese military expert, the exercises fully comply with international standards.

Meng Xiangqing, Professor at the PLA National Defense University:
"According to world practice, military shell firing exercises should be warned at least 24 hours in advance. We announced the maneuvers 38 hours before they started. This left enough time to withdraw vessels from the selected waters, adjust shipping routes and avoid civilian casualties."

The expert noted that the United States should refrain from further escalation of tensions in the region. The leadership of the Eastern Zone of the Combat Command of the People's Liberation Army of China stated that the exercises became a serious deterrent in the face of provocative actions by the United States and a warning for separatists seeking Taiwan independence.


A man with hereditary diabetes became the father of a healthy child thanks to genetic testing of embryos

Doctors managed to choose a healthy embryo thanks to the advanced technology of genetic testing of embryos. With this method, specialists from the hospital at Fudan University for the first time in world practice managed to prevent hereditary pathology associated with several genes at once. Previously, such testing was successfully used only to combat diseases that are affected by a single gene. This is an important step for medicine. In particular, it will help to identify and screen out embryos with pathologies such as congenital cleft lip, cleft palate and colorectal cancer. 


A gala concert with elements of virtual reality was held at the Qixijie Festival

The media Corporation of China has prepared a gala concert in honor of the annual Qixijie Festival, which is called the local Valentine's Day. The show reflected the romantic atmosphere of the holiday and combined the traditional art of the Celestial Empire with modern digital technologies. The leitmotif of the concert was a mythological story about the meeting of a shepherd boy with a weaver girl.

This legend is more than two thousand years old, and the Qixijie Festival is her age. 16 years ago, it was included in the list of intangible cultural heritage of the People's Republic of China. The organizers used references to Chinese poetry, classical literature, folk music, ink painting and calligraphy in the gala concert. At the same time, the artists' performances were intertwined with elements of computer graphics, virtual and augmented reality.
