Tajikistan and the European Union discussed the implementation of the new EU strategy in Central Asia


The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan Sirojiddin Muhriddin and the High Representative of the European Union (EU) for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell discussed the implementation of the new EU Strategy in Central Asia. As reported on Friday by the Information and Press Department of the Foreign Ministry of the Republic, their meeting took place on the sidelines of the Diplomatic Forum in Antalya (Turkey).

“During the meeting, the parties discussed the development of bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and the EU, the implementation of the new EU Strategy in Central Asia, as well as the implementation of joint projects,” the message says. According to the Foreign Ministry, the interlocutors noted the importance of developing relations between Tajikistan and the European Union within the framework of the Cooperation Council, the Cooperation Committee, as well as dialogues on political and security issues and human rights. As noted in the diplomatic department, Sirojiddin MuhriddinandJosepBorrel held a constructive conversation on issues of regional security and stability, discussing the situation in Afghanistan, the threat of terrorism and extremism , as well as issues on the international agenda.

The European Council approved a new EU strategy for Central Asia in 2019, the previous one was adopted in 2007. The new strategy aims to ensure sustainability and regional cooperation in the Central Asian region, in particular, the EU intends to promote economic modernization and investment in youth.

The diplomatic forum is held by the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Antalya on June 18-19, 2021. It is expected that the forum on the theme "Innovative Diplomacy: New Era, New Approaches" will be attended by heads of state, government, diplomatic missions of more than 40 countries, as well as representatives of academic circles, international organizations, experts and the media. The forum participants will discuss regional and global issues on the world agenda.
