Vyacheslav Volodin proposed to hold a parliamentary conference of the countries of the Caspian region.

The Speaker of the State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin proposed to hold a conference of the countries of the Caspian region if such an initiative is approved by the Azerbaijani parliament. He stated this during an official visit to Baku on Monday, TASS correspondent reports.

"As for holding a conference of the Caspian Sea countries within the framework of the parliamentary dimension, if you support, we will prepare such an appeal literally tomorrow, we will work on it through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with the states belonging to the Caspian basin. And, of course, we can further determine the approximate date when we will all gather together, especially since this initiative originated here in Baku," Volodin said, addressing the chairman of the Milli Majlis (Parliament) of Azerbaijan, Sahiba Gafarova.

The Speaker of the State Duma recalled that he had previously discussed with Azerbaijani colleagues "the need to develop a parliamentary dimension within the framework of the Caspian Sea and the states that are part of this association."

"It will be possible to tell our colleagues that we are initiating an appeal to all the parliaments of the Caspian Sea countries about the need to hold a conference within the parliamentary dimension to discuss issues related to environmental protection, navigation," Volodin said.
