Regional security conference held in Baghdad

The participants of the Baghdad conference called for resolving disagreements on the basis of mutual interests.


The solution of regional disputes and disagreements requires a collective approach on the basis of common security and mutual interests. This is stated in the final communiqué of the Baghdad conference held on Saturday, which was read out at a press conference by Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein.


The participants of the meeting pointed out "the importance of consolidating joint actions in a way that would positively affect stability in the region", and also "welcomed the diplomatic efforts of Iraq on  reaching common ground" between all parties. "The region is facing common challenges that require a solution on the basis of collective security, mutual interests and in accordance with principles of good neighborliness, non-interference in the internal affairs of countries and respect for their sovereignty,  . In particular, they called for  cooperation in the combat pandemic by sharing and transferring successful experience   agreeing on the need for joint action to solve the challenges posed of climate change and global warming 


The  summit also announced "support for the Iraqi government in its efforts to strengthen government institutions and hold elections." “The very fact of organizing this conference by Baghdad is clear evidence that Iraq adheres to a balanced policy and positive cooperation in its international relations,” the communiqué says. " We highly appreciate the great effort and sacrifices he suffered in his war on terror, and reiterate that rejection of all types and forms of terrorism and extremist ideology."


Speaking at a press conference, Hussein stated that Baghdad at this summit "managed to create an atmosphere of dialogue, and not conflict." “Iraq has played an important diplomatic role as an intermediary maintaining positive relations with all its neighbors,” he said. “ We were able to unite different forces and countries between which there were many problems, and we hope that the current state of tension will be replaced by consensus.” Thus, according to the head of the Foreign Ministry, "Saudi-Iranian meetings continue, and both sides have a great desire to resolve outstanding issues."


The Presidents of Egypt and France, the Emir of Qatar, the King of Jordan, the prime ministers of Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), the heads of foreign policy agencies of Saudi Arabia, Iran and Turkey, as well as the League of Arab States, the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation. On the sidelines of the summit, for the first time after the normalization of relations, Egyptian and Qatari leaders Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani held talks, which confirmed their intention to further strengthen them. In addition, the Emirati Prime Minister and Vice President Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum met with the new Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran, Amir Abdollahian.
