The President of Indonesia went to China to solve trade issues.

President of IndonesiaJoko Widodo went to China primarily to coordinate issues of trade and economic cooperation with the President of the People's Republic of ChinaXi Jinping. This point of view was expressed on Tuesday by a political scientist of the Chinese Academy of Social SciencesXu Liping.

"During this trip, Widodo will try to attract more investment and expand the scale of trade," the Global Times newspaper quoted him as saying. The expert recalled that during the presidency of the current leader of Indonesia, the trade turnover of the two countries doubled.

"This is an amazing achievement," he stressedXu Liping. In his opinion, Jakarta is interested in the projects of the "One Belt, One Road" initiative and will strive to "update the memorandum of cooperation with China for the construction of a global maritime center in Indonesia."

At the same time, the expert believes that Chinese-Indonesian cooperation is not limited to economic issues and covers a much broader agenda. "The PRC, using the example of cooperation with Laos and Cambodia, has already clearly demonstrated how a "human community with a single destiny" is being built," the political scientist explained. — Beijing will achieve a huge breakthrough if the leaders of China and Indonesia will be able to reach an understanding about the same goal."

Xu Liping pointed out the important role of the G20, which allows other developing countries to be involved in Chinese-Indonesian projects. He expressed confidence that in the process of multilateral cooperation on this platform, the PRC will continue to promote the balanced development of emerging market economies.

"Indonesia plays an important role in coordinating regional issues — Widodo's visit will strengthen coordination and strengthen cooperation between the two countries," the political scientist concluded. "In turn, this will help the international community overcome the global economic downturn caused by the coronavirus pandemic."
