Nursultan Nazarbayev was the first to publicly congratulate Kassym-Jomart Tokayeva with victory in the elections of the President of Kazakhstan.

The first president of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev, was the first to publicly congratulate Kassym-Jomart Tokayev on his victory in the early elections of the head of the republic.

"I sincerely congratulate you on your convincing victory in the presidential elections of the Republic of Kazakhstan! This victory testifies to your high authority as the head of state and is an indisputable proof of the unshakable faith of the people in your large-scale reforms and new initiatives, as well as recognition of the steadfastness, determination and wisdom that you showed in critical hours when the independence of our state was at stake. I wish you to always enjoy the universal support and respect of the people," reads Nazarbayev's congratulation, the text of which was published on Monday by Astana time by his press service.

He was the first to publicly congratulate Tokayev on his victory in the early elections held on Sunday. Six candidates, including the current president, are running for the post of head of state.

According to three exit polls, the current leader of the country is confidently leading with a result in the range from 82% to 85%. The preliminary results of the vote will be announced by the Central Election Commission on Monday in the morning.

The voter turnout rate in the presidential elections of Kazakhstan by 22:00 (19:00 Moscow time) was 69.43%. By this time, polling stations in all 20 regions of the country had closed.
