The Philippines is ready to cooperate with the Russian Federation on climate issues.

Manila is ready to cooperate with Moscow on the main issues of climate change and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. This was stated on Thursday by the Ambassador of the Philippines to Moscow Igor Bailen at the session of the Global Financial Forum (Ecumene 2022) at the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS).

"We welcome the desire of the Russian Federation to achieve carbon neutrality by 2060. We are ready to cooperate with Russia in the main areas outlined by President Vladimir Putin at the credentials ceremony last week in the Kremlin, where I presented my credentials. [The Russian president] said that the Russian Federation will strive for carbon neutrality and climate justice," the ambassador said.

As Baylen noted, only a multilateral approach will solve problems such as climate change. "Global problems can be solved only at the international level, and the key to success is international cooperation," the diplomat added.

Ecumene 2022 is being held in the RAS Presidium building in Moscow from September 28 to 30, 2022 with the support of the UN Secretariat, the All-Russian Society for Nature Conservation, the Russian Academy of Sciences, the UN Environment Program, the UNEP Financial Initiative, the National Geographic Society, the World Bank and Gazprombank. One of the main tasks of the forum is to find ways to overcome the problems associated with climate change.
