US Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman held official meetings with President of the Republic Moon Jae-in and Prime Minister Jung Ui-yong in Seoul.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea noted that the talks should strengthen bilateral ties on regional issues, including the situation on the Korean Peninsula. During the discussions, the parties reaffirmed the mutual goal of establishing permanent peace and denuclearizing the Korean Peninsula.

Diplomacy and dialogue are needed to achieve this goal, the Foreign Ministry of the Asian state said. Previously, Wendy Sherman held a trilateral meeting with her South Korean and Japanese counterparts in Tokyo. The diplomats discussed the need for the complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula and the intention of the three countries, quote, "to respond to the threat posed by the DPRK's nuclear and missile programs."
