Kassym-Jomart Tokayev resigns as chairman of the ruling party

The President of Kazakhstan announced that he had decided to withdraw from the ruling Amanat party.


The President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev announced that he had decided to step down as chairman of the ruling Amanat (Testament of the Ancestors) party and leave  


“From today, I decided to terminate my powers as chairman of the Amanat party and leave the party. This step is symbolic. I would like to thank you all for trust support in the presidential elections. I also express my gratitude for the fact that at a crucial moment they entrusted the management of the party,” said the president at the extraordinary congress of the “Amanat” party.


The head of the republic proposed the candidature of the chairman of the Mazhilis (lower house) of the parliament Yerlan Koshanov for the post of chairman of the Amanat party. The congress participants supported this initiative by electing him as the chairman of the Amanat party.
