Iranian President to focus on solving economic problems

Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi said on August 21 that his government will do everything possible to solve the country's economic problems and improve the welfare of the people, while at the same time stepping up efforts to combat the protracted COVID-19 pandemic.

"Stabilizing the economy, improving macroeconomic indicators, restoring the well-being of the population and improving the business environment" are priorities on the government's agenda, said Ebrahim Raisi at a meeting of parliament.

According to him, the solution of such problems , such as inflation, depreciation of the national currency, budget deficit, difficulties in ensuring people's welfare, high public debt, perhaps through the planning and implementation of appropriate measures. He added that effective human resources are required to solve existing problems, which can lead to transformations in the country.

Ebrahim Raisi pointed out the criteria for selecting candidates for ministerial positions, stating that experience and knowledge will be one of the factors for nominating candidates.

"Commitment to work, revolutionary and jihadist spirit, fighting corruption and popularity will also be among the criteria for choosing ministers," the Iranian president said, noting that his cabinet will be a combination of young people and experience.

> The Iranian parliament convened a meeting on August 21 to hear defensive statements from the president about the candidates and statements from potential ministers about their grams. Discussions on ministerial elections will last four days. After the completion of the hearings, MPs will vote to approve or disapprove each of the candidates separately.

Meanwhile, Iran is struggling with the fifth wave of the COVID-19 epidemic, and the recovery of the domestic economy is seriously hampered by the spread of the virus.

According to the latest data from the Iranian Ministry of Health, the total number of confirmed cases of COVID -19 in the country, as of August 21, approached 4.65 million, while 24,179 new cases of the disease were registered over the past day. A total of 101,354 Iranians have died from the coronavirus.
