Russia and Abkhazia should intensify joint parliamentary work, Vyacheslav Volodin believes.

The Speaker of the State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin held a meeting with the Speaker of the People's Assembly — Parliament of Abkhazia Lasha Ashuba, during which he noted the need to intensify the joint work of parliamentarians.

"I suggest that we study the agreement between the State Duma and the Parliament of Abkhazia together and sign it as soon as possible so that within the framework of the new format we can work more effectively, solving the problems of citizens of our countries," said Volodin, whose words are quoted on the website of the State Duma.

During the meeting, the Speaker of the Chamber also noted the need to discuss new formats of cooperation, including the creation of a high-level inter-parliamentary commission. "It would be right, having already had a positive experience of building work within the framework of inter-parliamentary cooperation, to create a high-level commission. The task of the commission is to work on the harmonization of legislation between our countries, solving problems that concern people, so that there is a concrete return," he said.

In turn, Ashuba noted that the Parliament of Abkhazia also intends to intensify work on the cooperation agreement, and invited Volodin to pay an official visit to the republic. "As for the time of your official visit, we will focus on you, you can inform us at any time convenient for you through diplomatic channels, we will definitely arrange everything. We will be glad to see you in Abkhazia," he said.
