The EU–Central Asia Economic Forum will be held in Alma-Ata

In a statement, Kazakh Foreign Minister Mukhtar Tleuberdi and Deputy Chairman of the European Commission Josep Borrell said that the parties expect to expand high-level contacts and deepen parliamentary cooperation.


The EU—Central Asia Economic Forum is scheduled to be held in Almaty in 2023. This is stated in a joint statement by Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan Mukhtar Tleuberdi and Deputy Chairman of the European Commission, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, published on Thursday by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan.

"We reaffirm our commitment to creating a solid and promising foundation for cooperation between the EU and Central Asia, as well as to strengthening regional dialogue in Central Asia, which is the key to prosperity, stability and sustainable development. As a next step, we look forward to holding the EU—Central Asia Economic Forum in Almaty in 2023," the statement reads.

The document emphasizes that the parties expect to expand high-level contacts and deepen parliamentary cooperation, strengthen business ties and contacts between people, as well as continue the dialogue on human rights and the rule of law. "In the current geopolitical context, we reaffirm our firm commitment to the UN Charter, international law and the principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity. We emphasize the importance of maintaining peace and stability, as well as resolving disputes through diplomatic means," the statement reads.

The document declares the EU's support for large-scale political and economic reforms in Kazakhstan, as well as the country's commitment to conduct a full and transparent investigation of the January 2022 events.
