China to step up coordination with Russia on Afghan issue



China is ready to intensify coordination with Russia on the Afghan issue, Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi said September 16 in Dushanbe, the capital of Tajikistan, during his meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
Wang Yi noted that the Chinese side is ready to strengthen coordination and cooperation with Russia on the Afghan issue, urge the United States and other Western countries to fulfill their obligations and jointly maintain peace and stability in the region.
China highly appreciates the activities of the Russian side, which opposes the politicization of human rights issues and the search for the source of COVID-19, Wang Yi said. He stressed that the Chinese side is ready to deepen strategic cooperation with Russia and assist the international community in strengthening anti-epidemic cooperation.
China and Russia should maintain close contacts and coordinate actions within the framework of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, jointly ensure peace and prosperity in the Asian -Pacific region and joint efforts to respond to various global challenges, he added.
Sergey Lavrov, in turn, noted that Russia and China should further develop cooperation in the fight against the epidemic , promote pragmatic exchanges and expand the scale of trade. According to him, the Russian side strongly supports China's position on issues related to Xinjiang, Hong Kong and Tibet.
The investigation into the source of the coronavirus is a scientific issue that should not be an instrument of political pressure, the Russian Foreign Minister said.
