The second international falconry center will appear in Russia

Adviser to the President of the Russian Federation Anton Kobyakov and Governor of the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug Dmitry Artyukhov discussed a project to create a Center for the Reproduction and Preservation of Rare Species of Large Birds of Prey in the region.
It will become the second international ornithological nursery in Russia, contributing to the conservation and breeding of birds of rare breeds.
The decision to build a falconry center in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug was made in accordance with the instructions of the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin. As part of the project, it is planned to create a base in the Okrug for the conservation and restoration of birds of the falcon family, which will combine a nursery, aviaries for young birds and an ornithological center.
The task of the specialists is to organize the breeding of rare breeds, to create a base for the restoration of birds of the falcon family in Yamal.
The first such center should open in Kamchatka in 2022. Its construction started on September 1, 2020. The project is supported by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Ecology of the Russian Federation, the Roscongress Foundation and the Administration of the Kamchatka Territory.
“A new international falconry center will appear in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug and will become the second unique nursery for rare birds of prey in Russia. We intend to continue work on creating a regional network of centers for the restoration of falcons, fight against poaching, draw public attention to environmental issues and the problem of biodiversity conservation. Thanks to the integrated work, cooperation of ornithologists, ecologists and government officials, we expect to strengthen the ornithological balance of the regions of Russia, turn them into interesting places for safe ecotourism”, Anton Kobyakov noted.
The opening of an ornithological nursery in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug is part of the program to create in Russia a network of regional centers for the reintroduction and conservation of falcon and bustard families.

When implementing projects for the development of Yamal, a priority for us is always the preservation of the unique nature of the Arctic in all its diversity. The Okrug has accumulated serious experience in the reproduction of rare animal species. I am sure that the creation of an international falconry center will allow us to unite the efforts of our specialists and the best scientists from all over the country to restore the bird population”, - emphasized Dmitry Artyukhov.
Issues of restoring bird populations are regularly discussed by expert delegates of the Eastern Economic Forum, which is held annually by the Roscongress Foundation in Vladivostok. Within the framework of the WEF, a project was launched to create a specialized ornithological protection service in Russia.
