Moscow became the first stage of the big "Procession of the Golden Man through the museums of the world." This priceless exhibit and symbol of Kazakhstan was brought from Astana to the Russian capital for the first time.

Golden Man was a noble young warrior of the Saki people who lived on the territory of modern Kazakhstan about 2500 years ago. His remains, dressed in precious attire and jewelry, were found in the Issyk barrow near Almaty in 1969 and instantly became an archaeological sensation. The discovered burial completely changed the idea of the level of development of the civilization that existed at that time.

“This completely changes our understanding of the history of the ancient world. And this is important, because we understand that in Egypt and Ancient Greece the world did not converge like a wedge, that there were no less great cultures here, in the Great Steppe. So, of course, the exhibition is of great importance, both scientific, cultural and historical,” First Deputy Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation Vladimir Aristarkhov told the TV channel Big Asia.

Of course, the Saka warrior became the main exhibit of the exhibition, but dozens of unique gold and silver items found in ancient burial mounds on the territory of modern Kazakhstan deserve no less attention. One of the key finds in the Issyk kurgan was a small silver bowl. Runes are inscribed on it, confirming that thousands of years ago the peoples living in the steppe owned a written language. What lies behind these symbols is still a mystery to scientists. There are at least 30 options for deciphering the runic inscription. The catch is that it is written in a language unlike any known.

“For me, this inscription is more precious than any gold. What lies behind these inscriptions: this is the level of culture, the level of worldview, the level of some kind of relationship, political, economic relations in the state, with neighboring states,” says the director of the branch of the Institute of Archeology in Astana, Doctor of Historical Sciences Zainolla Samashev.

Next to the jewelry of the Saki people are gold and silver jewelry created in the 19th and 20th centuries. Their beauty is not inferior to the ancient finds and clearly shows how the jewelry art has been transformed during this time.

“There is an unconditional continuity between the style and technique of ancient jewelry and those closer to us. But it must be said that ancient jewelry has that already recognizable in the world and amazing phenomenon of the animal style, which throughout Eurasia has acquired some special meaning and characterizes a special era on this earth, ”said Elena Titova, director of the All-Russian Museum of Decorative and applied and folk art.
