The Russian-Kazakh film will be shown at the Venice Film Festival

The film "Goliath" co-produced by Kazakhstan and Russia entered the competition program "New Horizons" of the 79th Venice Film Festival. This was reported on Tuesday in the press service of the streaming service START.

"A full-length film by Kazakh director and screenwriter Adilkhan Yerzhanov "Goliath" (Goliath) is included in the competition program of Orizzonti Extra ("New Horizons") of the 79th Venice Film Festival, which will be held from August 31 to September 10, 2022," the message says.

Goliath is a film co-produced by Kazakh companies Short Brothers, Changepoint and Russian All Media (a START Company) and Forest Film. The roles in the film were performedBerik Aitzhanov,Daniyar Alshinov, Dmitry Chebotarev andAlexandra Revenko.

The plot of the film takes place in the fictional village of Karatas, which has long lived under the rule of a local criminal authority. He gives the locals shelter and work, but ruthlessly executes those who go against him. This happens to the wife of the main character, who tragically dies, and he himself finds himself under the care of a bandit.

The New Horizons program demonstrates the main trends in world cinema and opens up new names of directors from all over the world. Projects of different genres and formats will be evaluated by the audience jury, which will determine the best film in this section. This year, in addition to Goliath, eight more films from seven countries will be shown in this section. In 2020 , AdilkhanYerzhanov presented his film "Yellow Cat" in the Horizons section at the Venice Film Festival.
