Sri Lankan writer Shehan Karunatilaka won the Booker Prize for Literature for 2022 for the novel "The Seven Moons of Maali Almeida" (The Seven Moons of Maali Almeida).

The jury's decision was announced on the evening of October 17 in London at the award ceremony of one of the most prestigious awards in the field of literature in English. According to the award's website, the humorous book tells about the afterlife adventures of military photographer Maali Almeida, who, after death, has seven moons to lead his loved ones to a cache of photos that should shake Sri Lanka.

The award was presented to the winner by Queen Consort Camilla. In addition to worldwide recognition and a sharp increase in sales of his works, the winner of the award will receive a cash prize of 50 thousand pounds ($ 57 thousand).
