India and the Russian Federation have a lot to do in the field of culture.

Indian-Russian relations in the field of culture have come a long way, but much remains to be done. This was stated on Tuesday by the chairman of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), acting under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the South Asian Republic, Vinay Sahasrabuddhe.

"India and Russia have dynamic relations in the field of culture. We have already come a long way, but much remains to be done," Sahasrabuddhe said.

According to him, "there are many dimensions that have strengthened the relationship." "I myself come from Maharashtra, where the Marathi language is spoken. And there is one special word that sounds the same in Russian and Marathi and has the same meaning. This is the word "sugar". Also, the sweetness of our relations knows no boundaries," the head of ICCR stressed.

He recalled that "immediately after the independence of India and even before that, Indian-Russian relations in the field of culture acquired several dimensions." "The works of Leo Tolstoy influenced Mahatma Gandhi. We grew up with an understanding of Maxim Gorky's literature," said the head of ICCR. Sahasrabuddhe also recalled the era when in Indian films were very popular in the Soviet Union.

"I believe that India and Russia is friends not only because of diplomatic relations or any strategic results. My understanding of Indian-Russian relations is a bridge that we have built and will continue to build on the basis of our culture," he concluded.
