On May 24, the Church of the Holy Sepulcher was opened to the clergy.

After two months of quarantine, on May 24, the Church of the Holy Sepulcher, one of the main shrines of the Christian world, located in the Old City of Jerusalem, reopened.

“For Israel, a key moment has come, a turning point. Almost everyone went to work, the children went to schools and kindergartens. Life is returning to its original course. Beaches and parks are already open, you can stay in some hotels, the Wailing Wall has become available for visiting, and finally, in the pouring rain, which is considered a blessing of God in sunny Israel, the Church of the Holy Sepulcher was opened. This is a truly historic event: the last time the temple was closed for a long time more than 200 years ago, after a fire in 1808. We look forward to the day when we can once again welcome tourists to the Holy Land, and we are actively preparing for this,” comments Vladimir Shklyar (on the right in the photo), Director of the Department of the Ministry of Tourism of Israel in the Russian Federation and the CIS, Counselor of the Embassy of the State of Israel in the Russian Federation.

While in the temple, only the clergy will be able to. But in the near future a decision will be made on the possibility of opening the temple for all parishioners. The restrictions will still remain. So, no more than 50 people will be able to stay within the walls of the shrine at the same time. The social distance between people will be 2 meters. Wearing a mask will be mandatory.

The heads of the three churches, the guardians of the Church of the Holy Sepulcher, have already appealed to the parishioners with a request to refrain from touching the icons, stones and any other objects located in the temple. Pilgrims and tourists were asked to remember their personal responsibility to other people and not to visit the holy place at the slightest sign of illness.
