The ensemble of contemporary choral music Altro coro will perform in Vladivostok with the program "Rachmaninoff and his contemporaries"

The Gnessin Ensemble of Contemporary choral music Altro coro will present the concert program "Rachmaninoff and his Contemporaries" at the Pushkin Theater of the FEFU.
The Altro coro Ensemble The Gnessin Russian Academy of Music (Moscow), under the leadership of the Rector of the Academy Alexander Ryzhinsky, on March 31, on the eve of the 150th anniversary of Sergei Rachmaninov, will present a concert program composed of choral works by the composer and his contemporaries at the Pushkin Theater of the FEFU. Spiritual compositions by S. Rachmaninov, P. Chesnokov, A. Kastalsky, V. Kalinnikov and N. Golovanov will be performed. Thus, the audience will not only be able to enjoy the work of the great hero of the day, but also feel the musical context of the beginning of the XX century.
The Altro coro collective was created in 2010 at the Gnessin Russian Academy of Music on the initiative of Professor Alexander Ryzhinsky. It consists of students of the Department of Choral Conducting, whose interests are focused on the heritage of domestic and foreign composers of the XX–XXI centuries. One of the main tasks of the collective is to popularize choral and vocal–ensemble compositions unknown in Russia. Creative possibilities, high performance level and special sound of the Altro coro ensemble have gained international fame and recognition. And the performance of the collective at the Pushkin Theater of the FEFU will be a bright event in the musical life of Vladivostok.
The concert will take place within the framework of the Gnessin Great Art project with the support of the Presidential Foundation for Cultural Initiatives and Aeroflot – Russian Airlines, as well as with the assistance of the Gnessin Academy of Music Alumni Association.
Recall that the President of the Russian Federation signed a decree on the celebration of the 150th anniversary of Sergei Vasilyevich Rachmaninov in 2023. Rachmaninov's creative image as a composer is often defined by the words "the most Russian composer". This brief and incomplete description expresses both the objective qualities of Rachmaninov's style and the place of his legacy in the historical perspective of world music. It was Rachmaninov's creativity that acted as the synthesizing denominator that united and fused the creative principles of the Moscow (P. Tchaikovsky) and the St. Petersburg school of composition in a single and integral Russian style.
Since October 2022, the Pushkin Theater of the FEFU has started organizing a series of concerts and educational events designed to acquaint residents and guests of Vladivostok with the work of S.V. Rachmaninov. At the initiative of the director of the theater Alexander Vovnenko, a concert of the Brass Band of the headquarters of the Pacific Fleet of Russia "Rachmaninov – forever!" took place in 2022, as well as performances by the Honored Artist of Russia Elena Razgulyaeva, who performed romances, chamber vocal works of the composer. In 2023, in addition to the concert of the Altro coro ensemble, pianists are scheduled to perform at the Pushkin Theater of the FEFU with a program dedicated to the legacy of Sergei Rachmaninov. Thus, on April 1, the laureate of international competitions Andrey Ivanov (Vladivostok) will perform on the stage of the theater, and on June 28, the laureate of All-Russian and international music forums, the winner of the First International Competition of Young Pianists named after S.V. Rachmaninov Elizaveta Borisova (Moscow).
