panel of experts from the World Health Organization (WHO) will complete its evaluation of Chinese vaccines by the end of April.

This was stated by the director of the WHO department for standards and prequalification Rogerio Pinto de Sa Gaspar on March 19 at a press conference in Geneva.

According to him, WHO experts are currently working on a report about vaccines developed by Chinese biopharmaceutical companies Sinopharm and Sinovac. In January, a team of experts went to China to conduct inspections. The evaluation will be completed in April, assured Rogerio Pinto de Sa Gaspar.

“As for issues directly related to the two cases, which relate to the so-called Chinese vaccines Sinopharm and Sinovac, they were submitted through the EUL mechanism to WHO. They are currently being evaluated as an additional tool to build on previous meetings. WHO has been conducting inspections at manufacturing sites in China since January. With all the difficulties of passing the quarantine, as reported at the time, we are conducting an assessment with a list of questions that were posed to both companies to address some of the problems identified during the GMP inspections. These issues have been resolved so the evaluation is ongoing and we will help complete this process at some point during April,” said the director of the WHO department.
