The Vietnamese Ministry of Health has approved the possibility of combining vaccines against COVID-19 from different manufacturers. The corresponding statement was published on Wednesday by the Vaccine Council of the Ministry of Health.

As the document notes, in the context of a limited number of vaccines in Vietnam, the use of American Pfizer and Moderna vaccines is allowed as a second vaccination for those who received the first dose of the vaccine from the British-Swedish manufacturer AstraZeneca. At the same time, the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines can be combined with each other as the first and second vaccinations, informed the Vaccine Council.

Earlier, the State Commission for Vaccination against COVID-19 turned to the Ministry of Health of the Republic with a proposal to consider the possibility of combining vaccines, taking into account the positive experience of many countries. According to Professor Dang Duc An, head of the National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology, in many countries, including Germany, Sweden and Canada, doctors use drugs from various manufacturers to vaccinate the population. This combination has proven to be more effective than using a single vaccine for the first and second shots.

According to official data, during the vaccination campaign that has been ongoing in Vietnam since March, more than 15% of the local population received one shot, and the number citizens vaccinated with two doses of the vaccine exceeds 3%. In accordance with the vaccination strategy approved by the Ministry of Health, by the end of 2021, it is planned to vaccinate against coronavirus 50% of local citizens aged 18 years and over, and at the beginning of 2022 to ensure vaccination of at least 70% of the country's total population, which currently exceeds 98 million people. .

According to the National Coordinating Committee for the Prevention and Control of the Spread of COVID-19, since the beginning of the pandemic in Vietnam since January 2020, 563,623 infected people have been identified. Of these, 325,647 people recovered, and 14,125 died due to complications caused by coronavirus infection.
