Singapore helps Indonesia

Foreign medical aid arrives in Indonesia as the country's healthcare system struggles to cope with a surge in coronavirus cases.

On Friday, 200 ventilators, about 250 oxygen tanks and protective equipment arrived from Singapore. About 1,000 ventilators are also expected to arrive from Australia.

Indonesian health officials confirmed 38,124 new coronavirus cases and 871 deaths on Friday. The country is seeing a rapid spread of the delta strain, first detected in India.

On Friday, the Indonesian government thanked nine countries for their offers of help. Among them is Japan, which sent about a million doses of AstraZeneca vaccine last week.
