Pianists from Japan showed high results at a prestigious competition

Japanese musicians were awarded the second and fourth prizes at the XVIII International Chopin Piano Competition.


Auditions for the twelve finalists of the competition ended on Wednesday. On Thursday, the jury announced that first place had been awarded toBruce Liu from Canada. The second place was shared by the Japanese Sorita Kyoheiand the pianist from Italy/Slovenia Alexander Gadzhiev. In fourth place were the Japanese Kobayashi Aimi and the Polish pianist Jakub Kushlik.

The International Frederic Chopin Piano Competition is considered one of the three major classical music competitions along with the Competition Queen Elizabeth in Belgium and the International Tchaikovsky Competition in Russia. 

The event takes place every five years in Warsaw.
