The Japanese government plans to lift the 10,000 spectator limit at major events and allow organizers to fill venues halfway.

The innovation will take effect on November 1st.

Authorities say while restrictions may re-introduce if cases rise, ways to further ease conditions at events will be considered, including the use of vaccination certificates and results testing.

Earlier, as part of the fight against coronavirus, the government set a limit of 5,000 spectators in areas where there was a state of emergency or quasi-state of emergency restrictions. In other areas, the number of spectators was limited to half of the total capacity of halls and stadiums.

After the emergency was lifted, as a transitional measure, the allowed number of viewers increased to 10,000.
