The Japanese government has launched a smartphone app that can show proof of being vaccinated against the coronavirus.

Users can use their smartphone to scan their ID card, and the app will show their vaccination status.

Tokyo's Shinagawa District government has set up a booth to provide assistance to those who experience problems using the app.

Officials say they will issue paper certificates to those who do not have an ID card or smartphone.

If the next state of emergency is declared, the government plans to abandon the restriction on the size of groups of visitors to restaurants, bars and venues subject to presentation of certificates.

The information in the appendix is based on data stored in the nationwide vaccination registration system.

However, as of Friday, errors were found in about 100,000 cases.
