The Japanese company VLP Therapeutics Japan has announced the start of clinical trials of a coronavirus vaccine. Manufacturers hope to create a drug that provides lower doses than today's similar vaccines.

Representatives of the company spoke about the details of the process at a press conference on Monday. According to them, the first phase of the trial started at the Oita University Hospital in southwestern Japan last Tuesday.

Like products from Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna, the Japanese company's experimental vaccine is based on mRNA technology that allows the transfer of genetic information . According to NHK, the development of an RNA-based vaccine allows the use of smaller doses of the drug to fight infection.

VLP Therapeutics Japan expects the vaccine to be available for use by the end of 2022.

This is the fifth in a row a company in Japan conducting clinical trials of a domestically produced anti-virus vaccine.
