Private clinics in Singapore have begun offering Sinopharm coronavirus vaccine to residents over 60 free of charge, which is not included in the state vaccination program. This is stated in the message of the company - the operator of clinics Healthway Medical Corporation, published on Tuesday.

“The initiative aims to support the government’s efforts to maximize the coverage of the population with vaccines against coronavirus. Especially the elderly, who are at risk of serious complications,” the statement said. “Starting September 8, people over 60 who wish to receive [the] Sinopharm [vaccine] will be able to do so free of charge at several clinics,” the company said. For everyone else, the cost of two doses is SGD 99 ($73.8).

Only Moderna and Pfizer - BioNTech have been approved by the authorities for use in the state program, including for children over 12 years of age. These vaccines are offered free of charge to all residents, and the government provides free treatment and insurance for serious side effects. At the same time, the Ministry of Health approved Sinopharm and Sinovac vaccines for use, but these drugs are commercially available.

To date, approximately 81% of Singaporeans are fully vaccinated. At the same time, revaccination of people over 60 years of age who were vaccinated at the beginning of the year begins in September.
