The organizers of the Olympic and Paralympic Games held in Tokyo in the summer of 2021 spent 1.423 trillion yen (about $ 10.5 billion) on their holding. This is stated in the report published on Tuesday on the website of the organizing committee.

At the same time, in December 2020, the organizers expected to spend 1.644 trillion yen (about $ 12.1 billion) on the competition.

According to the NBC TV channel, the organizers managed to reduce costs due to the forced decision to hold most of the competitions without spectators due to the threat of the spread of the coronavirus. Thus, they have reduced spending on infection testing, security and logistics.

Initially, the competition was supposed to take place in 2020. Due to the pandemic, they were postponed for a year, as a result of which the Olympics were held from July 23 to August 8, 2021, and the Paralympics — from August 24 to September 5. In addition, the organizers decided to hold the Games without foreign fans, local spectators were also not allowed to attend Olympic events in six prefectures, including Tokyo.
