It is too early to talk about the cost of the project, said the governor of the region, Alexander Burkov.

Construction works that will enable the use of unfinished objects of the Omsk metro and include them in the tram network of the city may begin in 2024. This was announced to TASS on Tuesday by the Governor of the Omsk region, Alexander Burkov.

"This year we will hold a competition for surveys and for pre-design work. After that, next year we will go out to design the entire transport system, which should work not only on the territory of Omsk, but also cover the entire agglomeration. I think that 2024 will allow us to start construction," Alexander Burkov said.

According to him, it is too early to talk about the cost of the project, but there is already an understanding that it will be capital-intensive, so the regional authorities plan to apply for state support. "Even if we make a high-speed tram, even if today we use only a part of the existing subway that is not completed, it is still a lot of money. Here, without the support of the federation, we cannot stand it ourselves," the governor added.

The decision to build the Omsk metro was made in the late 1980s. In 1992, it began to be built from the southeastern end of the city. After tunneling 820 m long between the Tupolevskaya and Rabochaya stations in 2003, the facility was frozen, deciding to start from the other end - between the densely populated areas of the left bank and the center of Omsk. To date, only a two-level metro bridge across the Irtysh, the Pushkin Library station and about 7.5 km of tracks have been built. The stations "Crystal" and "Zarechnaya" are not completed. The readiness of the first metro line is estimated at 35.9%. The authorities plan to use its facilities to expand the tram network and connect the right bank of Omsk with the left.
