The Japanese automobile corporation Toyota Motor has developed a prototype of a portable power source powered by hydrogen energy. This is stated in a press release issued on Thursday by the automaker.

The device is being developed jointly with a subsidiary of Woven Planet Holdings. It is a cylindrical cartridge with a diameter of about 18 cm, a length of 40 cm and a weight of 5 kg. The energy intensity is estimated at 3.3 kW/h. This is enough to keep the microwave oven running for 3-4 hours.

Ultimately, Toyota Motor expects to bring an environmentally friendly power source to the market, which would allow the use of hydrogen to spread in everyday life. This, in turn, should contribute to the global trend of reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Toyota Motor already has experience with hydrogen technologies. In 2014, the company introduced the world's first production car based on this type of fuel Mirai.
